Wesley Barresi

An attacking wicket-keeper batsman, Wesley Barresi is a South African-born former Dutch cricketer who represented the Eastern Cricket Club of South Africa at U15, U19, and U23 levels before making his first-class debut for the Titans in 2003.

After deciding to represent the Netherlands at the international level, Wesley made his ODI debut in 2010 against Scotland in the World Cricket League and, T20I debut against Canada, two years later in 2012. The Johannesburg-born was a part of the Netherlands squad in the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup held in India and two T20 World Cups held in the subcontinent in 2014 and 2016.

His career highlight came in 2013 against Kenya, where he smashed the bowlers all over the park scoring an unbeaten 137 runs at Lincoln Park in the World Cup Qualifier in 2013-14. A wicket-keeper by profession, Wesley did roll his arm in the latter part of his career, which saw him picking up three wickets in a first-class fixture against Ireland in 2017. 

For much of that decade, he was one of the Netherlands’ most dependable batsmen, and his opening partnership with Stef Myburgh was a feature of the World T20 Qualifier in the UAE in 2013, when he plundered the Scottish attack, in particular, making 70 and 75 not out in the two matches between the sides.

A career that lasted over 18 years in South Africa and the Netherlands came to an end as Wesley announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on 15th February 2021.
