Player Bio

A top-quality swing bowler, Tim Murtagh is a former cricketer for the Ireland national team who currently plies his trade in the County Championship for Middlesex. The veteran has terrific records for both Ireland and his County Club. Since the start of the century, no one has had more first-class wickets in England than his record of 878.

An Irish legend, Murtagh was born in London but qualified to play for Ireland thanks to his grandfather who was born in Dublin. After his application for Irish citizenship was granted in January 2012, he played his maiden ODI against Australia in June 2012. However, with the game washed out after 10 overs, it took a further two-week wait for the next match against Afghanistan for Murtagh’s first ball to be bowled in international cricket.

Over the span of eight years, Murtagh scalped 100 wickets for Ireland across all formats before announcing his retirement in November 2019. Fifteen years after making his debut at the Home of Cricket, he sensationally claimed a place on the honours board after picking up five wickets in the first session of their inaugural Test Match against England.

Seemingly evergreen, the London-based pacer took another 43 wickets in the County Championship in 2019. Middlesex secured his services for another two years after he announced his retirement from international cricket in 2019. His experience of bowling countless overs from the Nursery end at the Lord’s has proved fruitful for the club in the last decade.
