Player Bio

Dushmantha Chameera is a lanky right-arm fast bowler, who plays for the Sri Lankan cricket team. He made his international debut in 2015 and is generally known for his pace and inswinging delivery. He is a skiddy bowler and has the ability to rush the batsman off the surface.

Chameera was first spotted in Nondescripts Cricket Club in 2012 and was quickly recognized as a bowler for the future. After an impressive 2013-14 domestic season, where Chameera scalped 32 wickets at an average of 21.18, he was rewarded with a place in Sri Lanka’s Test squad to play the Kiwis at the end of 2014, however, he did not feature in any of the matches.

The Ragama born made his debut in the same series against New Zealand in an ODI match at Wellington, where he picked up a wicket, but impressed one and all with his raw pace.

Chameera was a part of Sri Lanka’s squad for the ICC World Cup 2015. He did not play in the first few matches of the tournament but was selected to play in the group stage match against Scotland where picked up three crucial wickets as the Lankans went on to win the match comfortably.

In the same year, Chameera bagged his maiden fifer against the Kiwis at Hamilton. He took 5 for 47 as the pacer rattled New Zealand with his excellent spell of fast bowling.

Post-2015, due to some lacklustre performances, Chameera was in and out of the Sri Lankan team. He had a poor away series in 2016 against both England and South Africa, as the lanky pacer only took 4 wickets in the combined two matches that he played.

Sri Lanka, over the years, has produced a great crop of fast bowlers. One of them is certainly Dushmantha Chameera. Injuries have halted his career and post 2015, he has been plagued with knee injuries which resulted in a drop of speed for Chameera. If the pacer can work on his fitness, there is still hope for him to make a mark for himself as a legend of Lankan Cricket.
