Player Bio

A wily left-arm orthodox spinner, Taijul Islam is a Bangladeshi cricketer who made his international debut in 2014. His love to flight the ball and the ability to tighten the screws in the middle overs attracted the selectors.

He first rose to prominence with 55 wickets in the 2013-14 first-class season. Selectors were impressed with his performance and Taijul was selected to be in the Bangladesh Test squad for the series against Zimbabwe.

In only his third Test, against Zimbabwe in 2014, Taijul took 8 for 39, the best figures by a Bangladeshi bowler in Test cricket. In the same year, he made his ODI debut against Zimbabwe and bagged a hat-trick, becoming the first bowler to scalp a hat-trick on his ODI debut.

It is a shame that a bowler of his class has played only a handful of ODI matches to date. Spin is a common commodity in Bangladesh and the competition is stiff for one place. Making his T20I debut against Zimbabwe, the Natore-born bagged a wicket on the very first delivery.

A fairly economical bowler in ODI cricket, Taijul is more of a one-dimensional bowler, and as a result, has been in and out of the Bangladesh squad. However, he would now look to cement his place in the Bangladesh team in all three formats.
