Player Bio

Lahiru Gamage is a right-handed seamer by craft, who has been a part of the Sri Lankan domestic structure since 2006, and got his long due international cap in 2014 when he played an ODI against India.

Gamage still has strong legs and has been running hard yards for a number of clubs ranging from Badureliya Sports Club, Chilaw Marians Cricket Club, Nondescripts Cricket Club, Police Sports Club, Singha Sports Club, Tamil Union Cricket and Athletic Club and Colombo Cricket Club.

After going through the grind of domestic circles for 8 years, Gamage got his chance to don the Sri Lanka jersey in 2014 during the tour of India. On debut, he scalped the wicket of Ambati Rayudu but went wicketless in the rest of three matches of that series. He was then dropped from the team, to return to play an ODI versus Pakistan at Hambantota in 2015.

Gamage was then added to Sri Lanka's squad for the third Test against India in August 2017, when two of the bowlers got injured. The seamer, who earned the reputation of moving the ball on any surface, was added to the Test squad on the back of performances for Sri Lanka A.

The Maradana-born didn’t make his Test debut then but got the opportunity two months later against Pakistan in the UAE. He scalped three wickets on debut and was then added in the ODI squad to play five games to scalp eight wickets, including his best ODI figures of 4 for 57.

Gamage then toured India to play three Tests to get scrutinized by the home batters. The seamer bagged seven wickets in that series, including the prized wicket of Virat Kohli, only after leaking runs at an economy rate of 3.49. He then played the Port of Spain Test against the West Indies in 2018, where he went wicketless as the visitors were thrashed by 226 runs.

Gamage hasn’t been selected in the national team since then. However, the seamer has been a regular in the domestic competitions in Sri Lanka. In August 2021, he was named in the Colombo Cricket Club squad for the domestic limited-overs tournaments.
