County Championship 2022 | Top-five active overseas batters in the English County circuit

Whenever we comprehend the County Cricket, it's probably one of those tournaments which act as the epitome of the purest form of cricket. Though it is a first-class tournament and we might not see an enormous hype about it, like any ICC tournament, it is a treat to watch some of our star players in the whites, playing in the English conditions.

Marcus Harris dropped from first XI after Usman Khawaja’s tremendous comeback

Australian opener Marcus Harris has been dropped for the final Test of the Ashes in Hobart. He will make way for the returning Usman Khawaja who scored incredible twin hundreds in the fourth Test match at the Sydney Cricket Ground. The 29-year-old left hander has had just one good innings in the series when he scored 76 runs in the first innings of the Melbourne Test. Playing in tricky conditions, Harris saw through 189 deliveries and came agonisingly close to his maiden Test hundred, a milestone he has been searching in his 14-match long Test career.

The Ashes | Cummins not in favour of dropping Khawaja, says he can bat anywhere from 1-6

The Ashes | Cummins not in favour of dropping Khawaja, says he can bat anywhere from 1-6

Australia skipper Pat Cummins is in no mood to drop an in-form Usman Khawaja after he hit twin centuries in the Sydney Test, which Australia couldn’t win, unfortunately. The fast bowler believes that Khawaja is in such a nick that he could bat at any position from opening to number six. "I'll preface it by saying I'm not a selector, but when someone comes out and hits twin hundreds, it's pretty hard to go past them for the week after,” Cummins said in the post-match press conference. Cummins’ comment that Khawaja could bat anywhere from 1-6 means that Marcus Harris, who hasn’t really shone in the fours Tests so far, might be in danger of losing his place as an opener in the XI. And it was clear from Cummins’ next statement. “We'll work through that, the selectors will work through that the next few days. But when someone's running hot, has got a heap of experience like Uzzy, the way he plays is fantastic,” said Cummins. "I felt like he could replace any batter from one to six. I know there's been question marks historically on him playing over in Asia but you see how well he's played spin recently - reverse sweeping, sweeping - he's just someone who's in total command of his game. That's why you love experience,” he added further. Khawaja played in the Sydney Test as a replacement to Travis Head, who would be fit to play in the Hobart Test. The Hobart Test, which would be the last in the five-match series, will begin from Friday, January 14 and would be a day-night affair.

Jos Buttler takes stunner on Day 1; sparks ‘Spiderman’ memes

England wicketkeeper Jos Buttler took a stunner behind the stumps early on Day 1 of the Pink ball Test in Adelaide. Sent to field first after losing the toss, England tasted early breakthrough inside the first 10 overs of the Test match. Back in the playing XI after sitting out the first match of the series, Stuart Broad set Marcus Harris up with a string of full length deliveries and then slipped in a short one from around the wicket. Harris, looking to tee off at that point, miscued a pull shot that seemed to be slipping through the gap between short fine leg and the wicketkeeper. However, Jos Buttler, known for his acrobatic abilities, flung himself to his right and caught the ball out of thin air to affect the first wicket of the Australian batting order. This sparked a memefest among the Twitterattis who compared him to the likes of Superman and Spiderman. It wasn’t all great though. After taking that one handed stunner, Buttler dropped a relatively simpler chance of Marnus Labuschange off Ben Stokes. The chance was once again created by a bouncer barrage where once again the ball seemed to be slipping through the leg side of the batsman. This was much closer to Buttler and despite getting his hands to it, he seemed to have been taken aback by the lack of pace on the deviation and ended up dropping the ball. At the time of writing, England were on an incredible toil and after bowling 53 overs in the first two session had conceded 129 runs for the loss of 1 wicket. David Warner and Marnus Labuschange were batting at 65 and 53 respectively.
