Player Bio

An attacking right-hand batsman, Rahul Tripathi is a technically gifted player, who made his first class debut for Maharashtra in the 2012/13 Ranji season. However, his first four seasons were modest, scoring three hundreds in 26 matches. The same could be said about his List-A career, which was going downhill, until the 2016/17 Vijay Hazare Trophy, where he bursted onto the scene.

Tripathi was the star with the bat for Maharashtra, accumulating 157 runs in 3 matches, which included a 74-ball 95 against Bengal in a crunch quarter-final game. Impressive performances in the shorter formats of the game earned Tripathi his maiden IPL contract. Ahead of the 2017 IPL season, Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) bought him for INR 10 lakh.

But it was in the IPL that year where his stock rose sky high. Opening the batting for his side, Tripathi was instrumental in Pune’s journey to the final of the IPL. He finished the tournament  scoring 391 runs from 14 innings at a strike-rate of 146. He struck seven thirty-plus scores in 8 innings, including a magnificent 93 off 52 balls against KKR.

RPS was defunct in 2018 but Tripathi was bagged by the Rajasthan Royals. He did not have the best of seasons with the Royals and was traded to Kolkata Knight Riders ahead of the 2020 IPL season.

Tripthi played 11 matches for KKR and accumulated 230 runs at a decent strike-rate of 127. He was then retained by the franchise ahead of IPL 2021.

A good strokemaker, Tripathi has seen lots of ups and downs in his cricketing career. After his high in the 2017 IPL season, he has been average to say the least. He has had a long cricketing journey and is a big game player for any franchise that he plays for. That was pretty evident in his debut season with Pune.
