A leg-spinner who loves giving the ball air, Praveen Dubey first stormed into the limelight when he was snapped up by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the 2016 IPL Auctions. It was not the money that grabbed the attention but it was due to the lack of first-class experience Dubey had coming into the IPL Auctions. He hadn’t played a single first-class match but it was his performances in the Karnataka Premier League (KPL) which made the RCB management bid for him.

Dubey bagged ten wickets in eight matches in the KPL in 2015 and was fast-tracked into the Bangalore squad. RCB picked him in the squad thus he became the only player from Karnataka to represent RCB in that edition. However, he was far from impressive in the limited opportunities he received and was released by RCB the next season.

Originally hailing from Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh, Dubey has gone on to play for Karnataka in the domestic circuit. Dubey made his mark in the University Cricket Championship in 2012 starring with both bat and the ball. He smashed a 61-ball century in a University Match. By then, he had decided to take up cricket seriously and he came to Bangalore to hone his skills and search for better opportunities.

The leggie made his List A debut for Karnataka in 2015 but didn't receive a longer rope. He made a comeback in 2018 plying his trade for Karnataka in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He didn't manage to cement his place in the squad and again, it was the KPL that brought him into the scheme of things again.

He played in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and bagged nine wickets in five matches but didn't get enough chances with the bat. His consistent performances ensured that Karnataka lifted the title that year. He was snapped up by the Delhi Capitals in the 2020 IPL as a replacement for the injured Amit Mishra. In the limited opportunities provided, he failed to bag a wicket. It will be interesting to see whether he is given a long rope in the 2021 edition.
