Player Bio

Left-arm medium-pacer, Beuran Hendricks has been in the international set-up for a long period of time but has never really managed to cement his place in the national side in any of the three formats. Hailing from Bellville Cricket Club in Cape, he rose through the ranks in the province. He went onto represent them in the 2010-11 season at the age of 21. Hendricks has the ability to click 140 but what makes him a potent option especially in the shorter formats is his variations.

The fast bowler had an astonishing time with the ball during the 2012/13 first-class season having bagged 35 wickets in just 7 matches. He was elevated with a spot in South Africa A squad and bagged a match-winning 11 wicket haul in the match against India A, later that season.

However, it was on the back of a sensational performance in the Ram Slam T20 tournament in 2013/14 that Hendricks managed to bag a spot in the national side. The left-arm pacer bagged 28 wickets in 11 matches at a staggering average of 10.28. His ability to generate pace and steep bounce was noticed by the national selectors and managed to make his international debut during a T20I against Australia in 2014.

Hendricks was part of the South African squad in the T20 World Cup that year in Bangladesh. He missed the first two matches and went on to bag 4 wickets in 3 matches coming in as a replacement for Morne Morkel. After the T20 WC, the South African became an overnight millionaire when he was snapped up by the Kings XI Punjab for a price of Rs 1.8 crores, to play 7 matches in the cash-rich league.

Despite making his T20I debut, back in 2014, the southpaw remained irregular in the Proteas set-up, until 2019. Hendricks made his ODI debut when Pakistan toured at the beginning of 2019. Since then, he has played a handful of ODIs for his nation. The following year, the seamer got the chance to make his Test debut against England in January 2020 and to grab a five-wicket haul in the second innings of the Johannesburg Test.

Hendricks has been irregular in South Africa, since his debut way back in 2014. However, the national selectors have once again backed the left-arm pacer and selected him for the full-fledged tour of the West Indies, in 2021. He would now like to cement in the Proteas team for the World T20, to be held later in 2019, and beyond. But the left-arm pacer has tough competition in Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, and Lungi Ngidi.
