Player Bio

One of the most well-rounded cricketers in the domestic circuit, Rahul Tewatia is a right-arm leggie and a pretty handy striker of the ball. Known for his lobbed-up leg-breaks, he is a fine product of the Haryana Cricket Association.

The all-rounder made his first-class debut for Haryana during the 2013-14 Ranji Trophy on 6th December against Karnataka. After his introduction to domestic cricket, Tewatia was picked by Rajasthan Royals before the 2014 IPL for a base price of INR 10 lakhs and retained him for the same amount in 2015.

The Faridabad-born prospect made his List A debut for Haryana in the 2016–17 Vijay Hazare Trophy on February 25, 2017. After various impressive performances, mostly off his bowling, he was bought by Kings XI Punjab for INR 25 lakhs where he bowled a match-winning spell of 2/18 in his debut game against KKR and smashed 15 off 8 deliveries as well. Rahul Tewatia came into the limelight when he was bought by the Delhi Capitals for an enormous sum of INR 3 crores ahead of the 2018 edition of IPL, which at the time was a career-defining moment for him.

Two years down the line, lack of returns with DC meant that Tewatia was traded to Rajasthan Royals from ahead of IPL 2020. Returning to his old franchise, he was ready to make the most of it. In a season defining moment, a struggling Tewatia hit five sixes in an over off Sheldon Cotrell, equalling Gayle’s record in IPL. Tewatia led Rajasthan Royals to a historic chase of 224 in IPL and became an overnight sensation.

In February 2021, he was named in India’s T20I squad for their series against England. With the fireworks he can provide down the order, and India’s struggle to find a finisher to support Hardik Pandya, Tewatia could be the answer to the selectors of the national team.
