Player Bio

Hailing from Surrey, Shoaib Bashir, born to Pakistani-origin parents, is a right-arm off-break bowler.

Bashir grew up in Surrey and pursued his education from the same city. He completed his schooling from Fullbrook and later attended Woking College. He played cricket for Surrey, Middlesex and Berkshire.

At 17, Bashir was released by Surrey and then his life-changing moment came as Somerset identified his talent and included him in their camp.

In October 2022, Bashir received a contract from Somerset for the 2023 season after he impressed for the Somerset Second-XI team, grabbing nine wickets at an average of 14.11 against the Warwickshire Second-XI.

In June 2023, Bashir made his T20 debut for Somerset. A few days later, he made his first-class debut. In between his maiden T20 and first-class matches, Bashir confirmed that he’ll stay at Somerset until the end of the 2025 season.

In October 2023, he was called up to the England Lions squad for the first time.

In December 2023, Bashir received his maiden call-up to the England national team for the Test tour of India in 2024.
