Player Bio

Himanshu Sharma, a leg-spinner, plays for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Hailing from Sikar, a small district in Rajasthan, Himanshu only realised in 2017 that he could make a career out of the sport. To act on this, he moved to Jaipur, where better cricketing facilities were available.

The love for sports is deeply ingrained in Himanshu's family. His father, a former volleyball player, represented Rajasthan at the state level, setting a strong sporting precedent for Himanshu to follow.

Despite not having played at the state level, Himanshu's talent was unearthed by RCB’s innovative Hinterland Scouting system. Led by the astute RCB head of scouting, Malolan Rangarajan, this AI-based program is designed to discover hidden gems from remote areas, and Himanshu was one such find.

As Rangarajan himself revealed after RCB signed Himanshu for INR 20 lakh in the IPL 2023 auction, the tweaker had been on their radar for a year. He attended the RCB trials before the auction and was closely watched by the then-head coach of the side, Sanjay Bangar, and spin bowling coach Sridharan Sriram.

He made his IPL debut in 2023 versus Gujarat Titans, featuring in the XI as an Impact Player.
