Player Bio

One of the most profitable bowlers for the Caribbean Islands, Ravi Rampaul is a tall, well-structured pacer who can swing the ball both ways at a brisk pace. A pacer of Indian descent, Rampaul’s early stages in his career were ruined by injuries. However, his return to top-flight cricket in 2007 made him one of the consistent bowlers in the limited-overs format.

Part of West Indies’ U-15 and U-19 setup, his dominance in age-group cricket made him an early debutant for West Indies. At the age of 18, the veteran made his ODI debut against Zimbabwe on November 22nd, 2003. After struggling with injuries, he fought his way back into the playing XI in 2007 and two years later made his Test debut against Australia in November 2009.

Not really known for his batting, Rampaul had shocked India with a brutal assault in a match in 2011 with an unbeaten 86 off just 66 balls batting at number 10, a record which still stands. He seemed to thrive against India as one of his most memorable performances against the Men in Blue came in the 2011 World Cup when he struck 5/50 in Chennai.

Rampaul was an essential part of the title-winning West Indies’ squad in the 2012 T20 World Cup. His exploits in the shortest format earned him an IPL contract from Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2013. He scalped 13 wickets in 11 matches for the IPL giants often providing crucial breakthroughs.

In an elite career for the Caribbean Islands, Rampaul has played over 130 international matches and has stockpiled more than 180 wickets. Yet to hangs his boots, it has taken persistence for Rampaul to break into West Indies’ elite list of players and his second stint on the international stage has clearly been fruitful as well but it is highly doubtful of him donning the maroon jersey again.
