Player Bio

Fidel Edwards is a right-arm quick who made his international debut for West Indies back in 2003, and is still charging down the track with the same intensity for the love of the game.

Edwards was hand-picked by Brain Charles Lara, just after playing a single game for Barbados. He has an unorthodox round-arm action that allows him to bowl at some extreme speeds, i.e. his 157.7 kmph in 2003. His action is often compared with Jeff Thomson, although Edwards remarks "I never copied anyone, it’s just natural”.

The seamer was called in to make his Test debut against Sri Lanka in Kingston in 2003 and started off his engine with a fifer in the first innings and a wicket in the next one as West Indies had a famous win over the Islanders. A few months later, he made his ODI debut to demolish the Zimbabweans.

However, Edwards’ not-so-smooth action halted his career for a bit as he started facing some injury problems, before getting dropped after the series against South Africa and England in 2007. He was also not part of the West Indies squad that hosted the World Cup, later in the year. The seamer was recalled to submit his name on Lord’s honours board as he pierced the Englishmen with a 5 for 45. But when Edwards was starting to regain his spot, another injury occurred just before the World T20 in 2009, and another collapsed in 2012.

In 2015, the West Indian signed up a county deal with Hampshire and has been with them since then. The speedster started his county career by picking up 45 Championship wickets from eight matches and is still running the hard yards for the club.

Over the years, he has also represented franchises across the globe. He has played in the IPL, Champions League, BPL, Global T20 Canada, CPL, BBL, Abu Dhabi T10 and lastly the PSL. In 2021, Peshawar Zalmi signed Edwards for the remainder of PSL 2021.

In February 2021, Edwards made his comeback to the West Indies national team after 8 years to play T20Is against Sri Lanka. At the age of 39, he gives hard competition to the youngsters.
