Player Bio

Born in Scotland of India, Vidhwath Kaverappa is a lanky fast-bowler who plays for Karnataka.

Hailing from Coorg, Kaverappa spent his formative years representing his state in handball. He picked up cricket at the age of 10 and fell in love with the sport, the bond which only grew from there.

Kaverappa started his cricket journey as an all-rounder and played for clubs like BEL Sports Club and South End Sports Club. His batting took a backseat as selectors picked him as a bowler in the Karnataka Under-19 and Under-23 sides.

The pacer made his First-Class debut in the Ranji Trophy 2021-22 versus Puducherry. He played only two matches in the season as Karnataka bowed out of the tournament after losing the quarter-final to Uttar Pradesh.

He starred in Gulbarga Mystics’ title-winning campaign in the Maharaja Trophy KSCA T20 2022, finishing up the competition as the joint-highest wicket-taker, claiming 17 scalps in 13 innings.

This earned him the white-ball debuts in T20 and List-A cricket. He first took 18 wickets, including a fifer versus Jammu and Kashmir, at an economy of 6.36 in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022-23, the second-highest in the tournament. He then played the Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2022-23, again pulling off wonderful spells, accounting for a total of 17 wickets at an economy of 3.54.

Kaverappa flourished in the Ranji Trophy 2022-23, showing that he is not only a white-ball product. He grabbed 30 wickets in total, including a five-for in the semi-final against Saurashtra.

He was named the Player of the Match in the final of the Duleep Trophy 2023. In the fixture between South Zone and West Zone, Kaverappa bowled a spell with figures of 7-53 and won the trophy for his team.

The Deodhar Trophy 2023 also happened to be special for Kaverappa. He took the most wickets, 13, in the competition, continuing his ascendancy to the top.

Punjab Kings bought him for INR 20 lakh in the IPL 2023 auction and retained him for the 2024 season. The right-arm fast bowler is yet to make an IPL debut. He had average outings in the white-ball tournaments but had a good Ranji season, grabbing 25 wickets in 10 innings.
