Player Bio

Hailing from Dunedin, Warren Kenneth Lees was a former player and coach of New Zealand cricket. His skills with the glove were the highlights of his career, alongside some valuable contributions with the willow.

Lees made entry to cricket in 1970 when he debuted for Otago in First-Class, while he also made his List-A debut for them the following year. The main achievement of his domestic career was affecting 440 dismissals. In 1988, he called time on his Otago career after winning Plunket Shield and Shell Cup (now called Ford Trophy).

The wicketkeeper's classy innings of 152 against Pakistan at Karachi in 1976-77 took his team out of deep waters and saved the match. He pouched five catches in an innings and eight in the match against Sri Lanka in 1982-83, which was one of his most impressive glove work.

The Dunedin-born has even served as a coach of the Black Caps during 1990-93. His biggest achievement was taking his side to the semi-finals of the 1992 World Cup.

He took Otago Sparks' side to new heights by winning two titles between 2012-17 as a coach. He even served as an interim coach of the New Zealand Women's team during the 2017 World Cup.
