Born on 24th February 1951 at Retford in Nottinghamshire, Derek William Randall is a former English right-handed middle-order batter nicknamed ā€˜Arkleā€™.

Randall started playing county cricket for Nottinghamshire at age 21, where he stayed till the end of his career. 

Known for his top-class fielding in covers, he notched up 28,456 runs in 488 First-class matches to go with 12,300 runs in 467 List-A matches. Not just that, the Retford-born racked up 52 hundreds in First-Class cricket as well.

His career graph took upwards when he debuted in the ODIs for England in 1976 against West Indies, and a few months later, Randallā€™s Test debut happened in India in 1977. 

The right-handed batter played 47 Tests and 49 ODIs for the Three Lions, accumulating 2,470 and 1,067 runs, respectively.

After hanging up his boots in International and major county cricket, Arkle played for minor county Suffolk for the next seven years. 

After his final retirement from the game in 2000, the Nottinghamshire player went on to coach Cambridge University and Bedford School along with minor county Bedfordshire.

Overall, Randall was a crowd pleaser, well remembered for his comical antics on the field.
