India’s top wicket-taker in U19 World Cup named in IPL’s watchlist for ‘Suspect Bowling’

India’s top wicket-taker in U19 World Cup named in IPL’s watchlist for ‘Suspect Bowling’

U19 World Cup winning off spinner Vicky Ostwal has been put on the watchlist for suspect bowling action for the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League. Ostwal was pivotal to India’s campaign in the Caribbean shores and largely controlled the rate of scoring himself along with other spinners in the first XI. He managed to pick 12 wickets in the tournament well ahead of the rest of the spinners in the team and was ranked at #7 in the list of players with most wickets. Ostwal’s struggles are not new as he has been called for suspect action in the Indian junior circuit several times but was cleared by the Sri Ramchandra Institute of Higher Education and Research - an ICC affiliated academy that deals with biomechanical issues and corrects suspect action. There are a few players in the U19 team that could get picked by the IPL teams this season and Ostwal is one of the names that could stay in the radar. But if found chucking, Ostwal could be banned from bowling till he corrects his action.

U19 WC 2022 Final | IND U19 vs ENG U19: In-form India look to add another trophy in the cabinet

Battling against all odds, the Indian team has registered a berth in the U19 World Cup final for the fourth time on the trot and they will now be up against England in Antigua on Saturday, February 5, 2022. India rode on some exceptional all-around show to thump Australia by 96 runs in the semis with skipper Yash Dhull scoring a century while Shaik Rasheed missed out on a well-deserved ton but he made a valuable contribution with a 108-ball 94. Later, the bowling unit especially the spinners ripped through the Australian batting lineup and anchor the side home pretty comfortably. On the other side, England in a rain-curtailed match against the Afghanistan side had to work hard to make a place for themselves in the final. Chasing 231 in 47 overs, Afghanistan started off in a decent manner but lost the way eventually to lose the match by 15 runs (DLS Method). They were restricted to 215/9 in 47 overs. The England team would want their middle-order to be among runs. Match Details Match: ENGU19 vs INDU19, Final, ICC Under 19 World Cup 2022 Date: Saturday, February 05, 2022 Time: 6:30 PM Venue: Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua Live Streaming: Star Sports Network and Disney+Hotstar Pitch Report The track in Antigua has something on offer for both the batters and bowlers. But the team chasing a target might face some issues as we saw in the last game so, whosoever wins the toss should elect to bat first. India should stick to basics The Indian team doesn't really need to make changes as they have been in quite a brilliant form in this competition despite being affected by the Covid-19 earlier. Captain Dhull and the other batters are in some good form while the bowling unit especially the likes of Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Ravi Kumar and Vicky Ostwal have shown a glimpse of their excellence. While Hangrekar can generate express pace, Ostwal has deceived the batters quite well with his spin. Ostwal, Raghuvanshi help India lift Asia Cup U-19 trophy after comprehensive win over Sri Lanka

India won its record seventh title in the Asia Under-19 competition as it defeated Sri Lanka by nine wickets in the final of the 2021 edition of the competition held at Dubai International Cricket Stadium in UAE. India outplayed its opposition on all flanks in the rain-marred game. The only thing that went in Sri Lanka’s favour in the entire match was the toss. After winning the toss, the islanders decided to bat first even as there was a forecast for rain. After that nothing was in favour of the Sri Lankan side that defeated a strong Pakistani team in the semi-final a day earlier. Courtesy of some brilliant bowling from the Indian clots who were led by left-arm spinner from Maharashtra Vicky Ostwal, the Sri Lankan team was reduced to 57-7 in the 27th over. A partnership did develop, but rain interrupted with the Sri Lankan score at 74-7 in the 33rd over. When the match began again after a two-hour halt, it was reduced to 38 overs a side and the Lankans were given the last five overs as powerplay. However, they could only manage to add 32 more runs to their tally and ended their innings at 106-9. While Yasiru Rodrigo top-scored for Sri Lanka with an unbeaten 19, Otswal picked three wickets for India. With the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method at play, India were asked to chase down 102 in 32 o ers. With a fifty from Angkrish Raghuvanshi (56*) and SK Rasheed’s unbeaten 31, the Indian colts chased down the total in only the 22nd over.
