Player Bio

Dewald Brevis is a young South African cricketer and popularly known as 'Baby AB'. He's a right-handed batter and an occasional right-arm leg-spinner. Brevis can switch his game according to the situation. Some of the shots that this voguish cricketer plays remind us of legend AB de Villiers and, therefore, the nickname, 'Baby AB'.

Brevis was signed by Northerns ahead of the 2021-22 domestic cricket season in South Africa. He made his T20 debut on October 8, 2021, for the South Africa U-19s in the 2021-22 season of the CSA Provincial T20 Knock-Out tournament.

In November 2021, the Protea was named in South Africa's team for the 2022 season of ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup in the West Indies. He scored two centuries and three fifties during the tournament and was adjudged the 'Player of the Tournament'. The youngster amassed 506 runs, which is a record for the highest number of runs scored at an ICC U-19 event.

In February 2022, Brevis was bought by the Mumbai Indians (MI) franchise in the 2022 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction for INR 3 crore, but his appearances were limited.

In CSA T20 2022-23, he smashed the record for the highest T20 score in South Africa, scoring a phenomenal 162 runs off just 57 balls. This also made him the youngest South African to hit a T20 century.

He made his T20 debut against Australia in August 2023. The Mumbai-based franchise retained him for IPL 2024.
