Meghna Singh is a right-arm medium pacer, who’s popular for her “banana swing” bowling in the Indian domestic circuit. Like many other cricketers, Singh too had faced hard struggles in her initial days - that has made her one of the strongest forces in the Indian fast-bowling crop.
Born in Kasba Kotwali of Uttar Pradesh, a 14-year-old Singh used to travel 25 kilometres to play and train at Nehru Stadium, Bijnor. As she grew older, her prowess bagged a job as a booking clerk in Moradabad Railways, which helped the pacer better her talent.
The swing bowler has been a regular feature for the Railways and Uttar Pradesh State, apart from representing the Velocity in the Women’s T20 Challenge. However, her breakthrough season was 2019, when she made some noteworthy performances in domestic cricket and for India A against Sri Lanka.
A national call-up was too far as Singh was named in the Indian squad for the all format tour of Australia, in September 2021. Apart from being a potent bowler, she is also a handy lower-order batter. The pacer would be eyeing to form a formidable trio - alongside Jhulan Goswami and Shikha Pandey - before the pinnacle ODI World Cup in 2022.
