A product of the Essex Academy, William Buttleman is a wicket-keeper, a batsman who plays professionally for the Essex County Club. A mainstay in the second team since 2017, he has worked his way into the senior squad at the beginning of the 2019 campaign.

Buttleman was drafted into the first team at the last moment during the opening County Championship fixture against Hampshire after Adam Wheater suffered a long-term hand injury, The Chelmsford-born gloveman made his first-class debut against Yorkshire on June 3rd, 2019, and was dismissed on a duck after facing 37 deliveries.

After featuring in just one Championship match, he was dropped from the squad. The youngster bounced back in the T20 Blast after two years in June 2021 against Hampshire. Despite his poor T20 debut scoring just 2 runs, he bounced back against Surrey smashing 56 runs, opening the innings as they chased down the small total of 119 runs with 8 wickets in hand.

A 21-year-old prospect, Buttleman is still new to the domestic structure but has shown promise with the second string of Essex. Yet to perform for the first team, he would be hoping to replicate his form for the senior squad and to break into the red-ball team.
