Stephen Doheny

A talented opening batter in the Irish domestic circuit, Stephen Thomas Doheny is also renowned for keeping wickets.

Even before Doheny's T20 debut for Leinster Lightning in 2017, his cricketing voyage had started at the 2016 ICC Cricket World Cup in Bangladesh. His influential contributions during the plate playoffs saw Ireland pip Canada and Scotland to finish 13th.

In 2018, the gloveman got his List A and First-Class debut for Leinster Lightning and made a gritty fifty against Northern Knights in just his second FC game. He also was the second prolific run-scorer in the domestic T20 tournament that season, with 193 runs, while averaging 38.6.

The Irish keeper-batter was in the Ireland Wolves squad that played Scotland A team in 2019. The next year, Doheny appeared for Ireland A which played Namibia at Centurion, where he charted 181 runs in 5 T20s. 

The charismatic cricketer found a different dimension to his game in 2022, topping the scoring charts of the T20 domestic competition with 294 runs, at an astounding average of 49, including a career-best 74* against the Northern Knights. In the 50-over competition, he slammed 146 runs including an imperial 97 against Northern Knights.

The 24-year-old has been on the Irish selector's radar for a couple of years but hasn't earned that prestigious cap. He was a part of the Irish camp for the 2022 ICC Cricket World Cup in Australia and is likely to make his debut against Zimbabwe in Jan 2023.
