Player Bio

A wristy off-spinner who has a lethal arm-ball in his arsenal, Bhagath Verma became an overnight sensation when he got a bid from the IPL giants, Chennai Super Kings(CSK) to play in the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Bhagath came into the limelight after a demolishing domestic season in 2017, where he picked 38 wickets in six matches in the Cooch Behar Trophy and by doing so, he became the fifth successful bowler in the Championship.

A huge admirer of Harbhajan Singh and Ravichandran Ashwin, Bhagath hasn’t really mastered the carrom ball but has been working hard on different kinds of variations. His hard work paid off when he got his maiden national call-up to the U19 squad of India for their England tour as a replacement for an injured player.

Selected for the Indian camp before the England tour, Bhagath impressed some of the big coaches such as Rahul Dravid and was left unattended after the England tour. Bhagath was overlooked by the state selectors for the 2020-21 Syed Ali Mushtaq Trophy and made a comeback in the Vijay Hazare Trophy next month where he was phenomenal with his crafty off-spin which grabbed the eyeballs of various franchises in IPL. As a result, he was signed by CSK for his base price of INR 20 lakhs for the coveted tournament.

Relying on his line and length more, Bhagath’s stock delivery is the top spinner. Having already impressed the former Indian skipper, MS Dhoni, in the nets, Bhagath still has a long way to go in his career and would be hoping to make amends for any opportunity presented to him in the yellow jersey.
