Player Bio

Hailing from Welkom, Thandi Tshabalala initially started as a top-order batsman but shifted to become a finger spinner. A few people in South African Cricket doubted the spinner’s capabilities to perform at the international level but not everyone is that adroit to pick the wicket of Sachin Tendulkar, Tshabalala was!

At the school level, Tshabalala was a top-order batsman but not much success meant he opted to become a specialist off-spinner. He made his domestic debut for the Eagles in the 2003 season. The emergence of T20 cricket meant an instant for a player like Tshabalala as he was the leading wicket-taker after the first two seasons of T20 competitions.

In a couple of years, the spinner earned his maiden call-up against Australia and then got picked for the Sri Lankan series. The spinner finally got a chance in an ODI against Ireland in June 2007. He further played three more 50-over games, one against India and the other two versus Zimbabwe. With the emergence of Johan Botha and Roelof van der Merwe in the set-up, Tshabalala’s international career was cut short and he eventually played his last professional game in 2016.

However, in 2021, the off-spinner played the Road Safety World Series, held in India, where he represented South Africa Legends in five T20 matches.
