Ryan's Bio

Ryan Austin - NOT the famous English footballer, but a former West Indies cricketer. He was one of those cricketers who got lucky during the controversial dispute between the board and the players. Austin, an offspinner and a handy batsman down the order emerged after a successful domestic career in 2008-09 but lasted long two just two Tests.

A 19-year-old Austin made his Barbados debut during the 2000-01 Busta Cup, after representing the West Indies U-19 team. Over the years, he emerged as an impressive spinner who played some quality knocks in both First-Class and List-A levels. The bowling allrounder was called up for West Indies A & B teams on a couple of occasions but had to wait for nine long years to achieve his dream.

60 wickets in the 12 Regional Four-Day games meant the Trinidad-born was selected for the Test leg of the Bangladesh series in 2009. Austin could only bag three wickets and score a total of 39 runs in two matches. Therefore, the national selectors overlooked him for the limited-overs leg.

However, the bowling allrounder went back to the domestic circuit to perform countless performances with both bat and ball until the end of the 2014-15 season. Playing the game for 15 long seasons, Austin played 104 professional matches to scalp 300+ wickets and more than 1000 runs.
