Player Bio

Mahendra Nagamootoo is a former cricketer who bowled leg-spin and was a competent lower-order batsman. He was a bits-and-pieces player who rose through the ranks to become a legend for Guyana. However, Nagamootoo could only sustain himself at the highest level for two seasons.

At 19, Nagamootoo debuted for Guyana during the Red Strip Cup of 1994-95. For the next five years, the leggie went through the grind and performed various stunning performances for his nation, including his 31 wickets in Busta Cup that led to a West Indies call up in 2000.

The Guyana-born made his debut against Zimbabwe in ODIs and received his Test cap against England during the Oval Test. Nagamootoo had a Test debut to remember where he took wickets of Marcus Trescothick and Nasser Hussain in a span of three balls.

The bowling allrounder became a regular for West Indies for the next two years and produced some sensational performances with both bat and ball. He scored his best Test score of 68 against Australia at Sydney and bowled majestically at Adelaide to pick a 4 for 22 against Zimbabwe.

Sadly for him, the national selectors lost interest in Nagamootoo and he played his last game for West Indies in 2002 after playing 5 Tests and 24 One-Dayers. However, the leggie remained the go-to man for Guyana, around whom the whole team revolved until 2007.
