Player Bio

A left-arm seamer who is capable of swinging the ball at decent speeds, Wayne Parnell is a professional South African cricketer who was a part of the golden U-19 generation that has produced some outstanding Test cricketers. Parnell skipper the U-19 Proteas team that lost a low-scoring thriller to India in the finals but he ended up as the leading wicket-taker with 18 scalps to his name.

A strike bowler and a handy lower-order batter, Parnell was a part of Delhi Capital (formerly known as Delhi Daredevils) before being signed by the Pune Warriors India ahead of the 2011 Indian Premier League (IPL). The youngest South African to receive a Cricket South Africa central contract, Parnell received his maiden call-up to the senior side in the limited-overs series against a mighty Australian side in January 2009. He made his T20I debut on January 13th followed by his ODI debut two weeks later against the same opponents.

Parnell was also part of South Africa’s 2011 World Cup squad but played just one game however he was not considered for the 2013 Champions Trophy after featuring in the 2012 T20 World Cup. On the back of some impressive performance, he returned to the South African squad for the 2015 World Cup and a couple of years later, the 32-year old seamer left South African cricket to ply his trade in the County Championship and signed a deal with Worcestershire.

Parnell received a surprise call-up back to the national squad for their ODI series against the Netherlands in November 2021 and would be hoping to cement his place in the limited-overs format in the absence of Anrich Nortje and Kagiso Rabada.
