Player Bio

Prabhsimran Singh also known as Simran Singh is a Patiala-based wicket-keeper batsman who caught the public eye for his huge price tag in auctions of the Indian Premier League(IPL) in 2019 when he was bought by the King XI Punjab (now known as Punjab Kings) for a whopping amount of INR 4.8 crores.

Prabhsimran started playing cricket when he was just eight years old. Brother of a former Ranji player Anmolpreet Singh, Simran scored a boatload of runs in every domain.

With a short stature, he might look like a busy kind of cricketer but his power-hitting talent is extraordinary. He is best known for his ‘stand and deliver’ shots. Everyone got a glimpse of his abilities during the 2021 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Tha Patiala-born prospect hit 22 sixes in 7 innings, which was the most by any batsman. He further amassed 341 runs making him the highest run-getter for Punjab in the tournament.

The biggest setback in his career came when he was ignored by the selectors for the Sri Lanka tour in August 2018 after a prolific domestic performance. After consistent hard work and his magnificent 298 in the Punjab U23 district tournament for Patiala caught the selector’s eye for the ACC U-19 Asia Cup. He was then named in the 23-man squad but didn’t get an opportunity to make his debut.

The dream of playing in IPL came true when he was bought for INR 4.8 crores from a base price of 20 lakhs, which made him an overnight sensation. Prabhsimran only played two matches for the Punjab Kings but improved his wicket-keeping skills from the likes Andy Flower and Jonty Rhodes.

He would be hoping that he could get more than a couple of matches in the next edition of IPL, but with the star studded line-up of Punjab Kings, it would be tough to break into the playing XI.
