Player Bio

Sumit Kumar is an Indian domestic cricketer who plays for Haryana. He is an all-rounder, attributed as a right-arm medium-pacer and a right-handed batter.

Sumit is well-equipped as a batter, with his skill there proving useful both as an anchor and a finisher. However, his bowling has emerged as his stronger suit, making him one of the prominent names in the white-ball circuit.

Born in Gurgaon, Sumit arrived in the domestic fold in 2019, starting his professional cricket career with T20 cricket, making his debut for Haryana in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2018-19. By the end of the year, he had broken through the Haryana List-A and First-Class sides, rapidly taking the steps to become a regular member of his state team.

Although he remained around the team, playing a few matches here and there, it was only in 2023 that he truly showcased what he is made up of.

In the SMAT 2023, he enjoyed an outstanding season with the ball, taking seven wickets in five innings at an economy of 6.44.

He channelised his all-round prowess in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2023. He bagged 18 wickets, which happened to be the joint second-highest in the tournament. His bowling numbers complemented batting, with his run-tally reading 182 and strike-rate being 154.24.

Sumit was named Man of the Match in the final of the competition against Rajasthan and also won the Player of the Series award.

Sumit’s finishing skills with the bat, coupled with his mastery over the new ball, earned him an IPL contract as a reward. Delhi Capitals pocketed him for INR 1 crore in the IPL 2024 auction. Furthermore, the Haryana cricketer grabbed 16 wickets and scored 198 runs in the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy.
