Player Bio

A right-arm pacer with a slingy action, Nuwan Thusara is a professional cricketer in Sri Lanka’s domestic circuit playing for the Galle Gladiators. With the exact same action as the legend, Lasith Malinga, Thushara is known for his yorkers and death bowling mainly in the limited-overs format.

Mainly a white-ball cricketer, Thushara made his first-class debut playing for Sinhalese Sports club against the Sri Lanka Army sports club in December 2015. After a few inconsistent performances in the longer formats, he was sidelined from the red-ball team. However, a month later, Thushara got a chance to display his skills in the shortest format and immediately made an impact, picking up 2 wickets in his debut t20 game against Galle Cricket Club.

The Thalawa-born pacer cemented his place in the 20-over format and went on to make his List A debut in March 2018. Thushara was highlighted due to his resemblance to his idol Lasith Malinga when a young cricketer from Sri Lanka was spotted bowling with Malinga’s complicated action and he did extremely well. Not just his action but his thick eyebrows and hairstyle also resembles the great. Yet to make his international debut, the 27-year old would be hoping to improve his accuracy and consistency to get a breakthrough in the national team.
