IPL 2021 | I thought he would do something magical: Balaji lavishes praise on improved Jadeja
Ravindra Jadeja won Chennai Super Kings a tough match against Kolkata Knight Riders with the bat and his bowling coach was all praise for the all-rounder. Lakshmipathy Balaji, while speaking in the post-match press conference said that he had all the confidence in the left-handed batter that he would do something magical and win the game. Recalling a moment from last IPL, Balaji said, "I think, this was exactly one year back in Dubai, the second game against KKR, Jaddu (Jadeja) won us the game in the last over.” “I recollected the memory and I thought when Ravi is playing, he would do some kind of magic and he has improved his batting under pressure, so he would win this" Balaji said. Talking about the improvement in Jadeja, who hit 22 off the 19th over when CSK needed to get 26 off two overs, having scored just 18 off the last three overs, Balaji further said, "He is showing that improvement on the field and making sure, helping us to cross the line. It is wonderful to see Ravi coming higher in this batting order, his batting ability has changed overall in the last one or two years.” On the other David Hussey, Assistant coach of KKR backed Prasidh Krishna to come back strong after this drubbing at the hands of Jadeja. "PK (Prasidh Krishna) has been (an) amazing death bowler for us throughout this tournament, in the last two games, so he is definitely in our plans to bowl. Unfortunately, he got beaten by a better player today in Jadeja. I'm sure knowing PK he is going to bounce back and become the world-class bowler that he actually is normally," Hussey said. Although CSK chased down 172 to win the game by two wickets and go top of the table, it got tight in the last over even as only four runs were required as Sunil Narine dismissed Sam Curran and Jadeja and it was Deepak Chahar who hit the last ball for a single to win the game as Sharduk Thakur had three earlier in the third ball of the over.
David Hussey backs Shubman Gill and Nitish Rana to come good in 2nd leg of IPL
Kolkata Knight Riders and former Australian batsman David Hussey has backed the likes of Shubman Gill and Nitish Rana to come good in the second half of the 14th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Calling them the future superstars of Indian cricket, Hussey is of the opinion that the duo is all set to ‘shock the world’ with their display of batting in the IPL. KKR will need both of them to come good if they harbour any hopes of making a turnaround in the second leg and make the playoffs. "Both quality players. Both are quality people too. They are both determined to do very well for this team and themselves. Both have had a taste of international cricket and I think they are about to shock the world that they are the next generation of Indian players." Hussey was quoted as saying in a video on KKR's official website. "Not just for one or two series. They are there for a decade, long time. If they get going, look out for us at the IPL", he further quipped. While Rana batted well in patches in the first half of the season. Gill had a relatively poor time with the bat scoring just 132 runs in 7 matches to Rana’s 201 runs in as many matches. Both Rana and Gill have got the taste of international cricket. While Gill established himself as a Test opener before a shin injury ruled him out of the Test series in England, Rana recently made his international debut when the Shikhar Dhawan led Indian white-ball team visited the Lankan shores in August. Gill has recovered from the shin injury and is expected to play a monumental role in KKR’s chances in the second leg. Gill who was part of the ICC Test Championship final XI will be making a return to cricket after the injury while Rana last played in Sri Lanka where he appeared in an ODI and a couple of T20Is. Meanwhile, KKR will restart their campaign with a match against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Monday in Abu Dhabi.
He will be one of the highest run-getters this IPL season: David Hussey on Shubman Gill
Former Australia big-hitting batsman and currently the chief mentor of the Kolkata Knight Riders, David Hussey believes that even after pertinent failures of the opening batsman Shubman Gill, he is going to end up as one of the highest run-getters this season. "One thing I do know is that he took the Test match arena by storm in Australia. The way he works on his game in the nets, he's very specific,” Hussey, 43, said. “He's got a great work ethic and I reckon all I can say is probably form will come and go, but class is always permanent. Mark my words he'll be one of the highest-scoring individuals by the end of the tournament. He's an absolute class act,” the Aussie added praising the 21-year-old Punjab born. Gill has so far had a meek outing in the IPL with only 80 runs to his kitty in five innings at a despicable average of 16 and a modest strike rate of 121. The demand to play Lockie Ferguson is also being raised from all corners of the KKR fan support base. Reacting to that, Hussey said, "Lockie is a class act and an excellent bowler for New Zealand. He particularly played well for Kolkata last year. He's handy in the death, but he'll also push the selection over the remaining games.” Finally, the mentor feels that all the issues would be resolved once the team starts winning some games. “We're going to start winning some games and I think everything will be discussed."
