Player Bio

A mysterious off-spinner and a top-order batsman, Ramesh Mendis is a professional cricketer for the Sri Lankan national team. A genuine all-rounder, Mendis has come through the Sri Lankan ranks, representing the U-19s, Emerging Players, and 'A' sides. He has also been a star performer for several domestic sides including the likes of Sinhalese Sports Club and Athletic Club.

Mendis’s numbers with the bat in first-class cricket actually stood out more than those with the ball. In the opening round of Sri Lankan's Major League first-class tournament in 2019/20, the Ambalangoda-born broke all sorts of records by striking a breathtaking triple century. His 270-ball undefeated 300 was the seventh fastest triple in first-class cricket and only the second Sri Lankan right-hander, after the great Mahela Jayawardene, to score 300.

Mendis last played red-ball cricket in August 2020, striking a 101-ball 104 for Moors against Nondescripts in the Sri Lankan domestic scene which saw him being shortlisted in the national squad for the touring English side in January 2021.

Regarded as one of the hottest prospects, Mendis made his Sri Lankan debut against England on January 22nd, 2021. On his first appearance, Mendis was caught out on a duck and struck just two wickets.

Later in July, the all-rounder got to represent Sri Lanka in white-ball cricket during the ODI and T20I series against England.

Mendis really is one of Sri Lanka’s brightest all-rounder talents who will be crucial in the upcoming red-ball tournaments for the ever-depleting Sri Lankan side.
