Player Bio

Michael Bracewell, a cricketer representing Wellington in New Zealand, is the cousin of current international player Doug Bracewell and the nephew of former Test players Brendon and John Bracewell.

A contract with Wellington for the 2018–19 campaign was given to him in June 2018. Bracewell picked up his first five-wicket haul in First-Class cricket in round six of the 2019-20’s Plunket Shield.

Before the 2020–21 domestic cricket season, Wellington offered him a contract again in June 2020. The all-rounder scored an unbeaten 141 against Central Stags on January 8, 2022, in Super Smash for Wellington Firebirds, the highest score in the T20 format in New Zealand.

The Firebirds skipper was included in New Zealand’s limited-overs squad for their home series against the Netherlands in March 2022. He made his international debut in the same series and was later selected for the Test team on a tour to England in May 2022 where he featured in his maiden red-ball game.

The Masterton-born smashed his maiden century in the ODIs in July 2022 against Ireland and won it for the Black Caps single-handedly. Two days after his T20I debut, the off-spinning all-rounder scalped his maiden hat-trick in T20Is against Ireland.

Now, he is a regular player for the Kiwis, at least in the limited-overs format, and will be seen playing an all-rounder’s role in the T20 World Cup.
