Player Bio

A young impressive right-arm fast bowler, Mohamed Shiraz plays for Burgher Recreation Club in Sri Lanka’s domestic circuit. Shiraz has the ability to move the ball and can consistently click over 140 KMPH - if added his potent effort ball to the package - Shiraz becomes an all-format bowler.

Born in Kandy, the pacer graduated from Madeena College while he has represented various clubs ranging from Burgher Recreation Club, Colts Cricket Club, Kurunegala Combined XI, et al. He has also played for Sri Lanka Board President's XI and he donned Galle Gladiators’ jersey during the inaugural edition of the Lanka Premier League.

The Kandy-born made his first-class debut for Colts Cricket Club in the Premier League Tournament in November 2016. The following year, he made his List A debut for Kegalle District in the Districts One Day Tournament in March 2017. In the following season, the pacer was named in the Colts’ squad to make his T20 debut in March.

Since his debut, Shiraz has taken enormous strides in the domestic circles and has improved a lot on his accuracy and speed. The pacer was rewarded when he was included in the Test squad to tour South Africa in February 2019, but he did not receive his Test cap then.

In August 2021, Shiraz was named in the SLC Reds team for the SLC Invitational T20 League. However, prior to the first match, he tested positive for COVID-19 that ruled him out of the tournament. Sooner or later, the seamer will be donning the Sri Lanka jersey to join the threadbare pace attack, it would be on the pacer how quickly he cements his berth.
