The number two wicket-keeper for Yorkshire, Ben Birkhead is a professional English cricketer. A dynamic and versatile batsman, Birkhead arrived on the domestic scene for Yorkshire in 2019, and also played cricket outside of Melbourne in the Bendigo District Cricket Association for the Kangaroo Flat club.
Birkhead has played league cricket for Rastrick in the Huddersfield League and has represented Yorkshire at Under 14s, 15s, 17s, and 19s level. He scored 1,099 runs and claimed 58 dismissals behind the stumps in all formats for the Academy and second team in 2018 and in 2019 made his List A debut for the first team in a Royal London one-day Cup match against Durham at Headingley in early May.
Returning back from Australia, Birkhead was then handed a debut in the Vitality Blast at the end of last summer, against Derbyshire. He claimed a catch and didn’t bat in a victory. Yet to feature in any Championship fixture this season, Birkhead would be hoping to make the most of any first team opportunity presented to him.
