Player Bio

Nick Welch is a Zimbabwe-born cricketer who migrated to the United Kingdom, in 2020, to play for Leicestershire County Cricket Club, gaining his UK citizenship, later that year. Welch is a top-order batter and an occasional leg-break googly bowler.

Born in Harare, in 1998, Welch first broke onto the scene when the batter was selected for Zimbabwe U-17s. He made his first-class and List A debut for Mashonaland Eagles in 2014. The young batter played three Logan Cup games and five Pro50 Championship matches in Zimbabwe, before deciding to shift to England.

In 2018, the Zimbabwean represented Surrey Second XI to play staggering knocks of 175 and 149, the following his average dipped to under 25. Hence, he went to Loughborough to play as part of the Marylebone Cricket Club University fixtures. The following season, the Zimbabwean made his T20 debut in the NatWest T20 Blast. After his t20 stint, the Leics signed Zimbabwe-born batsman on a two-year deal.

Welch has got limited opportunities to showcase his skills in the UK, but in his limited chances, the Zimbabwe-born has hinted about his talent and ability to turn on his day. Apart from scoring runs, he knows the art of breaking partnerships, apart from being athletic on the field.
