Player Bio

A tall, athletic right-arm pacer, Abhimanyu Mithun is a professional cricketer who has all the ingredients to become a great fast-bowler but couldn’t live up to his expectations. After focusing on athletics in his early teens, he started taking cricket seriously from the age of 17 and made a rapid rise by 20, making his first-class debut in the 2009-10 Ranji Trophy. The 32-year old pacer not only ended as the leading wicket-taker with 52 scalps but also led Karnataka to the first Ranji Trophy final in 10 years.

Mithun made an instant impact in the domestic circuit and earned a callup to the Indian cricket team for the ODI series against South Africa and made his debut in February 2010. He went on to make his Test debut five months later against Sri Lanka and scalped 4 wickets in the first innings of his debut, including the prized wicket of Mahela Jayawardene. Despite the early international success, Mithun could not find a permanent spot in the Indian team but his good run with the bowl continued with his state as he scalped 41 and 39 wickets in the 2013-14 and 201415 domestic seasons respectively.

Mithun signed for the Royal Challengers Banglore prior to the 2009 Indian Premier League (IPL) where he tasted very little success before moving to Mumbai Indians in 2015 and later moved to Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2016. In October 2021, Mithun announced retirement from the Indian domestic cricket to ply his trade in various franchise cricket all around the world, signing his first contract for the Northern Warriors in the Abu Dhabi T10 League.
