Making his National Championships debut during the 2008-09 season, Chavan had his first full season with Mumbai in 2011-12. A left-arm spinner with a nine for against Punjab, he has a first class century to his name as a lower-middle order batsman too. The all-rounder was part of Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2011 and will continue to represent them in IPL 2013.
