Player Bio

A well-built, tall seamer, Matt Milnes is a professional English cricketer who currently plays for Kent County Club. Milnes was identified by Dom Sibley as one of the best red-ball bowlers in the County circuit as a late bloomer.

Milnes in his early days spent two years at Durham University and their MCCU program where he juggled his studies with both university and county second-team cricket at Durham. He landed a short-term deal with the Notts in 2017 and 2018 and it wasn’t until his move to Kent ahead of the 2019 season that Milnes’ game leapt to another level.

Milnes joined Kent from Nottinghamshire before the start of the 2019 season and proved to be another inspired signing. Milnes had a breakthrough season in 2019, taking 58 first-class wickets and his best figures of 5-38 came against his old club Notts. Within a year, he was a tourist with the England Lions on their impressive trip to Australia in early 2020.

The Kent-seamer extended his contract with his current club until the end of 2022. After arriving at Kent, he instantly became the long-term plan of Matt Walker and Paul Downton. For a bowler still making his way in the game, one looking to put on an extra yard of pace, Milnes is a high-quality red-ball pacer who alongside Mark Wood can become a future prospect for the Three Lions.
