Player Bio

A stylish stroke player, Leus du Plooy is a South African-born cricketer who plays domestic cricket for Derbyshire. He made his arrival at the domestic stage playing for Free State in the 2016 Africa T20 Cup.

Du Plooy came into the limelight in the 2018 Africa T20 Cup, when he stockpiled 145 runs in four matches to become the leading run-scorer for the Northerns squad. His best domestic season in 2019 fetched him over 1200 domestic runs in all tournaments.

At the age of 24, Du Plooy signed a Kolpak deal with the Derbyshire County Club and enjoyed a fruitful opening season in all formats of county cricket. Du Plooy amassed over 385 runs in his debut season in the Championship including a century against Middlesex in July, while he has also shone in the Royal London One-Day Cup and particularly the T20 Blast, proving to be a crucial part of Derbyshire's top-order as they reached the quarter-finals of the 20-over competition.

In September 2019, he signed a contract extension with Derbyshire which will see the youngster at the club till the end of 2022. Heading into 2021 full of confidence having had two years experiencing English conditions and having also been one of the few Derbyshire players drafted for the new Hundred competition where he will be able to put himself in the spotlight in a high-profile format in front of a global audience.
