Player Bio

A composed top-order batsman, Jack Leaning is a professional English cricketer for the Yorkshire County Club. Born in Bristol, he is a former England Under-19 who hasn’t always been a regular fixture for Yorkshire in any format recently but has put in a number of special performances for the County.

Leaning made his first-class debut against Surrey on June 21st, 2013. He had a horrific debut after failing to open his account in any innings. He quickly asserted his authority at the crease in Canterbury, scoring 220* in his second game for the club. Leaning shared an unbeaten 407-run stand with Jordan Cox (238*) as Kent amassed 530-1 against Sussex in the Bob Willis Trophy. This was Kent’s highest ever partnership and laid the foundations for a victory by an innings and 25-runs.

In 2014, his breakthrough year, he scored 465 Championship runs in 10 appearances before adding 922 from 15 matches the following year, including three hundreds. He was named Yorkshire’s young player of the year. An outstanding all-rounder, Leaning is a handy off-spinner and after a long haul of cricket at Yorkshire he announced his exit to Kent in 2020.

Leaning’s talents across all formats of the game show that he is a versatile and intelligent cricketer. Kent signed him to add significant depth to their batting unit in order to climb higher up the County Championship table and compete for white-ball trophies in the upcoming years.
