Player Bio

A highly composed top-order batsman, Robert Michael Yates is a professional English cricketer for Warwickshire County. The Solihull-born batter was a product of the Warwickshire Academy since the age of 10 and entered the second XI after graduating, making an immediate impact. He ended a dream debut season with a maiden Championship century under his belt and became a regular in the Bears’ red-ball team. Having played 12 Championship games, he amassed 570 runs under pressure and shot his way to fame as a teenager.

Predominantly a red-ball cricketer, Yates has stockpiled over 1000 first-class runs in just 2 seasons but has so far been restricted to only a handful of games in white-ball cricket. At the start of the 2021 Championship season, he was rewarded with a new three-year contract which will see the youngster at the club till the end of 2024.

Yates has made huge strides over the last 12 months and has become a fan favourite at Edgbaston. Still, at the tender age of 21, he would be hoping to play a huge part in the club’s fortune for years to come.
