Player Bio

Ian Andrew Cockbain is an English cricketer who has been representing Gloucestershire since his debut in 2010. He has emerged as a reliable middle-order batsman, however, Cockbain has cherished more in the shorter formats, and his staggering number in the T20 Blast proves his potential.

The Liverpool-born is a son of a First-class cricketer, Ian Cockbain, who arrived in Bristol following three years as an MCC Young Cricketer. He impressed everyone with a maiden First-Class century against Middlesex and backed with a 46-ball 78 in a T20, before sealing the spot in Gloucestershire across formats with a couple of astonishing performances.

In 2015, Cockbain enjoyed his best-ever T20 season with 392 runs at an average of 39.2 and continued the form in the following season by becoming the third-highest run-scorer in the T20 Blast. In 2019, he topped the team average in the Vitality Blast with 34.62 and also finished third in the run tally.

Post the T20 Blast of 2020, the dasher broke into a prestigious list in the history of England’s domestic T20 competition after scoring 2,949 runs at an average of 42.13, including seven T20 centuries. Cockbain holds the record for most T20 appearances for his Club and is regarded as the best-ever batter to have played the T20 league.

In 2021, the Gloucestershire cricketer signed up for a deal with Welsh Fire for the inaugural edition of the Hundred. The seasoned campaigner has been proving his worth in the shortest game on countless occasions, and the 100-ball seems like a tailor-made format for a player like Cockbain.
