Shreevats Goswami questions training procedure as India's injury woes continue
Bengal cricketer Shreevats Goswami has raised questions on the training procedures after so many injury concerns have come up in the Indian team. Goswami in a tweet wrote, “With so many players getting injured at the top level, maybe it’s time to think and realise that we might be training incorrectly? Could be the years of wrong type of training where players aren’t able to MOVE swiftly, have we been training according to our sport?” The Indian team that is touring Australia has been plagued with injuries while a number of players had been unfit to travel. Mainstays like Ishant Sharma and Bhuvneshwar Kumar were ruled out even before the team had travelled to Australia while Umesh Yadav, Hanuma Vihari picked up injuries during the course of the match. The addition to this list was Shardul Thakur and Navdeep Saini in the fourth and final Test of the series in Brisbane. Saini had walked out of the ground after complaining of pain in his groin. “Navdeep Saini has complained of pain in his groin. He is currently being monitored by the BCCI medical team,” a tweet from the Indian cricket board read on Friday. Apart from these players, KL Rahul injured his wrist while Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja were ruled out after getting hit during the match. Shami was ruled out of the series after the first match while Jadeja in the third game. Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah and all-rounder R Ashwin missed the last match after not being fully fit.

It wouldn't be wrong to say that today was a left hander's day in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021 as not one but four left-handers in Jharkhand's Virat Singh, Punjab's Abhishek Sharma, Karnataka's Devdutt Padikkal and Bengal's Shreevats Goswami powered their teams to victories by some memorable performances with the bat. Virat Singh, who, only at the age of 23, has toiled in first-class cricket for six years making his debut in 2014, made a brilliant 103 off 53 balls hitting 12 fours and three sixes at the Javadpur University Ground against Assam. On the back of his hundred and some quick runs by Sourabh Tiwary and Kumar Deobrat at the death, Jharkhand set an imposing target of 231 to chase for Assam. Assam team, even after some brilliant shots from the young gun Riyan Parag couldn’t quite get the chase going and managed just 187 runs from their 20 overs, losing the game by a huge margin of 51 runs.
