Player Bio

Saqlain Mushtaq is a former Pakistan off-spinner who mastered the art of bowling doosra with an off-break action.

Mushtaq made his ODI and Test debuts in September 1995 against Sri Lanka. He was an immediate success with nine wickets in his first two red-ball matches.

The talented off-spinner picked successive ten wickets-haul against India early in 1999.

The 1999 edition of the World Cup witnessed Mushtaq emerging as the leading wicket-taker for Men in Green with 17 scalps in 10 appearances.

In October 2000, Mushtaq finished with his career-best ODI figures of 5/20 against England. Soon, he became the fastest (3 years and 249 days) to reach the landmark of 200 ODI wickets.

Mushtaq reached his career-best Test score of 101* against New Zealand in March 2001. Later, the Lahore-born spinner registered his best red-ball match figures of 10/155 against Zimbabwe in November 2002.

The right-arm spinner last played for Pakistan in a Test fixture against India in April 2004. He scalped 208 wickets in the purest format and 288 wickets in the limited-overs.

In 2016, he was appointed as a spin consultant for the England cricket team in the series against Pakistan and India. Currently, Mushtaq is serving as the interim head coach of the Pakistan national team.
