Player Bio

A clean striker in the truest sense, Nathan John MNZM Astle is a former New Zealand all-rounder.

He made his ODI debut in January 1995 against West Indies. In his only fourth appearance, Astle scored 95 against Sri Lanka. Later in the year, the talented batter hit his first-ever century against India at Nagpur.

The early part of the following year witnessed Astle making his Test debut against Zimbabwe. In his third and fourth red-ball match, the Canterbury batter registered successive centuries.

Soon, the skilful all-rounder cemented his place in the Kiwi team across both formats.

The 1997 edition of the Independence Cup spotted Astle opening for New Zealand. In the first game against Pakistan, he amassed 117 and registered his career-best figures of 4/43.

During his career-best knock of 222 off 168 deliveries against England in 2002, Astle hit 11 sixes and is second in the list of most maximums struck in a single red-ball innings.

Astle garnered 11,866 runs in his international career comprising 27 centuries. With the ball, the medium-pacer picked up a total of 154 wickets.

The elegant batter received the "One-Day International Batsman of the Year" award in 2006. Soon, the veteran received a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit (MZNM) in the following year.
