Player Bio

A crafty off-spinner, and a handy batsman, Nicky Boje is the former South African cricketer who was born in Bloemfontein and domestically played for the Orange Free State.

Boje made his South African One Day International debut in 1995 against Zimbabwe, but his Test debut didn’t come until 2000. A prolific all-rounder, he belonged to that era of the Proteas team which was filled with extraordinary all-rounders. However, he became a significant member of the Test side after rising up to the No. 1 spot in ICC Bowler’s rankings.

In 2005, Boje was caught in a match-fixing scandal and refused to tour India again, but he fought back into the side to play against the Touring Indian before announcing his retirement from all forms of international cricket.

Boje joined Northamptonshire for the last few weeks of the 2007 season and in 2008 he took over the role as captain for Northamptonshire. In that season, he scored his highest ever first-class cricket score of 226*. He left Northamptonshire at the end of the 2010 season. After leaving Hampshire in 2010, he announced retirement from all forms of cricket.

The Bloemfontein-born was the key member of the South African Legends squad in the 2021 Road Safety World Series leading them to the quarterfinals of the tournament.
