Player Bio

A dynamic batting allrounder, Merwe Gerhard Erasmus is a Namibian cricketer and the current captain of the Namibia cricket team.

He made his first-class debut in 2011 and since then has risen to the top of the mountain with his fine leadership skills. In March 2019, Erasmus was named as the new Namibia skipper for the 2019 ICC World Cricket League Division Two tournament. The team finished in the top-4 places and as a result, Namibia gained the One-Day International status.

A technically sound right-handed batsman with an ability to chip in with off-break bowling, Erasmus made his T20I debut for Namibia against Ghana in 2019.

In September 2019, the team management decided to trust Erasmus’s leadership style and made him the captain for the 2019 ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier tournament. The Windhoek born impressed everyone with his batting style and notched up 268 runs in nine matches.

Ahead of the ICC World T20 tournament in November, Erasmus was named as the captain of the Namibia squad.

A talented allrounder, Erasmus has been one of the few consistent performers for Namibia over the last decade or so. The team management firmly believes in him and the 2021 World T20 will be a true test of his captaincy skills.
