Player Bio

Primarily a left-arm spinner, Akeal Hosein is a professional cricketer for the Men in Maroon. Born in Port of Spain, Akeal represented the West Indies under-19s at the 2012 Under-19 World Cup in Australia and currently plays for the Barbados Tridents in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

The Trinidadian’s first-class debut for Trinidad and Tobago came during the 2012–13 Regional Four Day Competition, against Jamaica and the following season he rose to fame after being awarded man of the match in consecutive games, taking 6/33 and 5/34 against the Windward Islands and then scoring a maiden first-class century, 102 not out, against the Leewards.

After a successful CPL campaign, taking 10 wickets and leading Trinidad Knights to win the 2020 edition of the competition, Akeal made his international debut against Bangladesh in an ODI fixture on January 20, 2021. Although West Indies lost the low-scoring game, Akeal was phenomenal with his effective spin bowling in the Subcontinental conditions picking up three wickets for just 26 runs in his ten overs quota. Since making his debut, he has become quite a regular feature in the Maroon army in the limited-overs squad.

A calm, composed cricketer, Akeal has shown perseverance of the highest level. Battling against all odds in the weak domestic structure for eight years before making his international debut, Akeal has vast experience in the shortest format of cricket, playing for various franchises around the world. His experience can be vital for the Men in Maroon for the upcoming T20 World Cup which is going to be held in India.
