Bio
A promising bowling all-rounder, Luke Jongwe is a professional cricketer for the Zimbabwe national team who started his cricketing journey more as a batsman than a bowler but hasn’t been able to make a name of himself with the willow in hand in the national colors.
Jongwe arrived at the domestic stage in December 2013 as a teenager and got his big break into the national team eight months later. The Harare-born all-rounder made his international debut in an ODI match against the Proteas on August 17th, 2014, and was dismissed on 19 runs by Imran Tahir chasing a mammoth total of 310.
After a handful of international games under his belt, Jongwe suffered a head injury in a practice match against UAE weeks before the T20 World Cup and was ruled out of the coveted tournament. He made a comeback to international cricket five years later making his Test debut against Pakistan on May 7th, 2021.
The star paceman hogged the limelight when he stole the show in a T20 match against Pakistan. Chasing a low target of 119 in Harare, Pakistan succumbed to an upset with a 19-run loss as Jongwe returned with his career-best figures of 4/18 not even allowing the Men in Green to cross even the 100-run mark.
Jongwe’s career has been revived since he made a comeback to international cricket. Still quite a young personality, he will be hoping to transform his game into another level to reach new heights in his illustrated career with a team that lacks decent all-rounders.
